In-store radio for shops and retailers

Your own branded radio station for your shop floor - the right music, your promotions, your voice. Properly licensed, professionally curated, and built to keep playing when your internet doesn't.

Background music sets the atmosphere. In-store radio does that and goes a step further: it gives you a scheduled, branded channel to talk to customers while they shop - new ranges, offers, loyalty sign-ups, event reminders - woven naturally between the songs, in a voice that sounds like your brand rather than a tannoy announcement.

In-store music, or in-store radio - which do you need?

It's worth being clear about the difference, because they solve different problems.

In-store music is curated background music that shapes how your shop feels. If all you want is the right atmosphere - licensed, reliable, no announcements - our in-store music service is built for exactly that.

In-store radio is a radio-style service: the same curated music, plus your own messaging, promotions and station branding scheduled around it. Choose this when you want the music to work for you - driving specific products, pushing a sale, building a branded in-store experience that customers recognise across every visit and every store.

Plenty of retailers run both ideas at once: music-led most of the day, with timed promotional messages at the moments that matter.

"Why not just put the radio on?"

It's the obvious question, and the honest answer is: you can, but you probably shouldn't.

Tuning a normal commercial station in your shop is legal if you hold TheMusicLicence - but you're handing your shop floor to someone else. You broadcast your competitors' adverts. You get news bulletins, weather, and phone-ins that flatten the mood you've worked to build. You get content you can't control and didn't choose. And the music isn't curated for your brand or your time of day - it's curated for a different audience.

A bespoke in-store radio station gives you the radio feel - music, energy, a presented sound, your own jingles and idents - without any of that. No competitor ads. No off-brand chatter. Every message on the station is yours.

What in-store radio does for your business

A well-run in-store station is a sales and brand tool, not just audio filler. It works on four levels.

Promotes what you want, when you want

Schedule messages around your trading day and your calendar. Push a new range at 10am, a lunchtime offer at noon, a "last hour of the sale" prompt before close. Change it across every store from one place, in minutes.

Builds a branded sound

Your own station name, your own idents and jingles, a consistent presented voice. Customers start to recognise the sound of your shop the same way they recognise your fit-out and your logo.

Drives measurable behaviour

The music still does its quiet commercial work - tempo and volume affecting dwell time and spend - and the messaging adds a direct nudge toward specific products and offers. The two reinforce each other.

Keeps every store on-brand

For multi-site retailers, in-store radio means the same branded station and the same scheduled messaging in every location, with room for regional or store-format variations where you want them.

Six things that matter for in-store radio

in-store radio station for your business

Your own branded station

Station name, idents, jingles, and a presented sound built around your brand - produced by us or supplied by you. Not a generic feed, not someone else's adverts.

time based commercial messages

Scheduled messaging and promotions

Announcements and promos scheduled by time of day, day of week, or campaign. Introduce Christmas messaging in November, ramp it up week by week, and have it stop automatically. Tie messages to specific products, offers, or events.

licensed and legal in store radio

Licensed and legal

A commercial-use music library, plus full control over your own spoken content. We help you understand your PRS/PPL position rather than pretending licences don't exist.

offline in-store radio

Plays offline

Friday afternoon, broadband drops, the station keeps playing. The system caches your scheduled music and messages locally on your shop's hardware, so a dropped connection doesn't take you off air.

central dashboard for in store radio

Centrally managed across sites

One dashboard, every store. Push a new promotion or a station refresh and every site updates at once - with different programming by region or store format where you need it.

UK based support from the beautiful Falmouth

UK-based support and production

Real people on the phone when something goes wrong, and a production team that can voice and produce your messaging. Based in Cornwall, available across UK trading hours - not an outsourced ticketing system.

A station that reacts to the real world, store by store

Most in-store radio is the same loop everywhere, all day. Ours doesn't have to be. Each store's station can adjust itself automatically based on live data - so the music and the messaging fit what's actually happening in that location, right now, with nobody touching a dashboard.

Weather-aware programming

Feed in live local weather and let the station respond. A wet afternoon can shift to calmer playlists and push umbrellas, hot drinks or rainwear; a heatwave can lift the energy and promote cold drinks and summer lines. Different weather in Brighton and Manchester means a different station in each, automatically - reflecting how buying habits actually change with the conditions.

Real-time promotions via API

Connect the station to your own systems - EPOS, promotions engine, stock or pricing feeds - and let offers reach the shop floor as they happen. A flash sale goes live and the station starts announcing it within minutes. A line needs clearing and the promo schedules itself. Overstock, a price drop, a time-limited deal - the message follows the data instead of waiting on someone to record and upload it.

Per-store, on your rules

Every store can react to its own local data - its weather, its stock, its events, its trading patterns - while still sounding like one brand. You set the rules once; the system applies them store by store and keeps them running.

The technical detail behind this - location-aware scheduling, weather-driven rules, and API integration with your operational systems - lives on our platform page if your IT team wants to dig in.

The licensing, in plain English

If your shop is open to the public, playing music there is a "public performance" under UK copyright law. That needs two licences - PRS for Music (songwriters and composers) and PPL (recording artists and labels), usually held together through TheMusicLicence. That applies whether you play background music, a normal radio, or a bespoke in-store station. Nobody can replace TheMusicLicence - it's the law.

What we handle is everything on top of that: a music library licensed for commercial use, and your own spoken content produced and scheduled properly. Your station messaging is yours - no third-party adverts, no off-brand content. And because consumer services like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube are licensed for personal use only, they're not a legal option for any of this. An in-store station from Rosi gives you the radio experience without the compliance risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just tune a normal radio station in my shop instead

You can if you hold TheMusicLicence, but you'll broadcast your competitors' adverts, plus news and chatter you can't control. A bespoke in-store station gives you the radio feel with only your own content on it.

Do I still need a music licence for an in-store radio station?

Yes. Any public performance of music in your shop needs TheMusicLicence (PRS + PPL), regardless of how it's delivered. We can't grant it - nobody can - but we'll help you understand exactly what your shop needs.

Can I have my own jingles, station name and branding?

Absolutely. We can produce branded idents, jingles and announcements for you, or schedule ones you supply. The station sounds like your brand, not a generic feed.

Can I schedule promotions and change them across all my stores?

Yes. Schedule messaging by time of day, day of week or campaign, and push changes to one store or your whole estate from a single dashboard.

What happens if I lose internet

The station keeps playing. Music and scheduled messages are cached locally on your in-store hardware, so a dropped connection doesn't take you off air.

Can the station change automatically based on weather or live promotions

Yes. Each store's station can respond to live local weather and to feeds from your own systems via API - so the music and messaging adjust to the conditions and to real-time offers, per store, on rules you set once.

What's the difference between this and your in-store music service

In-store music is curated background music for atmosphere. In-store radio adds your own branded messaging, promotions and station identity on top. Many retailers use a blend of both.
