RnB Stations – Rhythm and Blues… Music Of Black Origin… Hip Hop, Grime etc…. May I present BBC Radio 1 Xtra, and Global’s Capital Xtra, which was Choice FM but renamed to join the Capital family/brand, then there’s Bauer’s Kiss Fresh – a very tight playlist of only the “Freshest New Beats” to complement the main Kiss brand.
We also have the “oldies” stations from each camp, but that’s hardly cool street speak, so what should they be called?… Bauer have the very snappily named and well known “Kisstory”, and Global have the awfully named “Capital Xtra Reloaded”, whatever that is meant to mean…. Even “Capital Old Skool” would have been better in my opinion, but feel free to send your names ideas to Richard Park at Leicester Square! The main Capital Xtra has a surprisingly large song reportoire for Global, but the graph reveals the variety is mainly coming from weekends when the Jocks are given slightly more of a free reign, especially if you can afford the playola fees (ah yes, a quick back hander to DJ Tiiny there!). Kiss Fresh is at the other end of the spectrum, playing only 141 different songs in 30 days (that’s not even 12 hour’s worth!), with less than 35 songs making up 50% of the airtime!
